Joey and Adam destination engagement session // Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland

Joey and Adam recently got engaged towards the end of last year. Their first date was spent coasteering (sea level traversing, rock climbing, cliff jumping and swimming) along the Giant’s Causeway so it made perfect sense for them to want their engagement pictures to be a keepsake of that initial meeting.

Usually when I mention a sunrise photoshoot to my couples ( where it requires them to be up at the crack of dawn) a few shy away and opt for a more human time. Not these guys. They were up for literally anything. Not surprising as they’re an adventurous couple who spends a lot of their time travelling the world, exploring new cultures and surfing at every opportunity.

We met at the nearby hotel where we walked over the roof of the National Trust building and along the public footpath to the long road which leads up to and around the Giant’s Causeway. There were no fancy outfits, stylists or artificial lights any where. We wanted to keep it natural and authentic; reminiscent of their first date. Most of the time, I just let them get along with it whilst I tried to capture their interactions with each other. At the very few times that I gave them direction, they were more than happy to oblige and even took it further than I expected! When asked to walk around the rocks edge, I had no idea they were going to use them as stepping stones: running, chasing and giggling to each other. No fear of the tide or slippery rock surfaces. Joey’s infectious laugh echoed around the bay with Adam always a step ahead or behind, making funny faces to entertain his future bride whilst simultaneously caring for her safety.

The cold, damp, early morning hour-drive was worth it. I love it when a couple are so natural with each other that they forget I’m there. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to capture this moment for them and I’m sure there will be plenty more wonderful adventures for them to share together in the future.
