Based in the UK, focusing on crafting beautiful memories for your wedding day. Huge believer of documentary, story-telling and natural approach of photography style.
More and more couples are opting to have an engagement shoot as part of their wedding photography package. While they’re not for everyone but there are a lot of benefits to having this photo experience. Here are my top 3 reasons to have an engagement session.
1. Get to know your photographer
Having an engagement session with your chosen photographer allows you to create a connection with them prior to the big day. During the session, you’ll understand how they work and it gives you the opportunity to let them know what you want more or less of (e.g. more guidance on poses, less direction etc.). It’s also the perfect opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera – helping to eliminate those camera-shy nerves ahead of the big day.
2. A different setting to your wedding venue
It’s not often people get to have professional photos done. Aside from the holiday selfies and the actual wedding day, you may want to have memories of the two of you in a more “normal” setting. Most engagement sessions tend to take place in a location that has some meaning to the two of you such as where you first met, your first date, your first outing together etc. or in a location that you thought beautiful but wasn’t possible to have as a wedding venue.
3. Usage of the photos
Shots from your engagement session can be used for a number of things. Some ideas are: Save The Dates invites, Card Table at the wedding venue, on your wedding website, Christmas cards, Anniversary cards or simply just to share with family and friends. Just because they’re engagement shots doesn’t mean they’re only usable for your wedding. They should be timeless keepsakes that form a part of your journey together.
